ABOUT ALL THAT YELLOW LAST NIGHT
My heart is completely full.
To cover a lot of ground swiftly here (even though I have so many words) the people at The Foundry SF are amazing.
Such a beautiful space. So open and easy and lovely. Just superb.
Elise from Her Urban Herbs blew my heart wide open with her gorgeous flowers, and superb detail. Perfection.
My son and his partner, and my oldest and dearest friend Rachel Lewis arrived with her daughter and they organized shifts at the door checking tickets, handing out shirts, and keeping track of things.
Torie Richardson and Tyler Jurich got us started with depth and weight.
Rachel Torro elevated everything with such energy. I love her style. I also really admire their friends (wearing yellow) and really showing up. That's where it's at!
Jeno focused the room (as he does) and had us bring the lights down low (and rightly so).
I played a 100% live set (Sunshine). It was a trip to see my mother, my son, my sisters, stepfather, family and friends getting down.
Markie delivered a brilliant, mind bending last word for the night. I was delighted to let him keep my headphones afterward. We (the world) need(s) a lot more Markie.
Doc Martin and Sylvia made the scene, Mark Chai , Ahmad Abdo , Colten Noakes, Mic May, Danica Harbaugh Reynaud, Robert G Brown , Gary Gill, Austin Ward , Mario Wright , Erich Bowman , Tre Thompson , RayRay Riggin, Rick Bond, Peter Montgomery (and I heard tale of one Mrs. Sarah Archbold Hollingshead actually being there, but I didn't see her, we didn't hug, so as far as I'm concerned she wasn't there), Tanya, June Rose, Felly, Leah, Erin Roo, Angelica Kuhl, Benjamin K, Benjamin B. Orphan Eksouzian, Ron and his gorgeous family, and so many many more just blew my mind.
I handed out flowers, threw flower confetti, hosted, made sure Markie had headphones and a 3rd deck, got the lights off Jeno, forgot to eat dinner, and had a marvelous experience.
I've never thrown a birthday party before. Not for me.
I don't like my birthday. But it came over me last night, and has stayed with me this morning that this wasn't for me. It was for you.
So many people had experiences last night which revived, restored, confirmed, healed and opened them up that I find myself so truly grateful today.
Maybe I've always disliked my birthday because I have never looked at it this way.
In the spirit of TUOC-000 the Sunshine Jones 2016 Live Ground Tour, the planned 3 month tour that took more than 2 years to play all of the dates, from which the film HOME was produced, everything we do at the urgency of change is a release on the label.
Devoted as we are to the living in the real world, producing physical objects, the yellow party was an effort to invite the people we know and love, and who love us together to hear two of the DJ's responsible for our ever getting involved in electronic music, and three of the people who have arrived in the last few years and inspired us, and were right on time.
This was a wonderful experiment in themed gathering based on the color yellow, a street promotion only technique where in only unique, out of place, smart, adventurous, weird, off, and interesting people were approached cold, asked "Do you like to dance?" and if they said "Yes" then they were asked "Do you like electronic music?" and if they said "Yes" then they were handed one of these small fliers. While the prospect was struggling to read the little flier, a pinch of dried flower petal confetti was tossed over their heads.
It was truly lovely to see, marvelous to hear, and beautiful to experience.
Therein lies a deeply loving lesson for me, and maybe for all of us:
Welcome my fire, revive my passion, energy, joy and love.
Leave your fear, selfishness, pain and grief in the flames.
Let them burn.
